On Mother's Day, we took a long drive to the 'Giant Mountains' (Krkonoše) in Czech's far north, to meet Marie and listen to the stories of her difficult past that ended in a loving and supportive foster care family. Maruška's wise outlook on life, for such a young woman, was inspiring. And wow, does she pack a mean punch!

Tereza's story will form part of a documentary which aims to give voice to those who have grown up separated from their biological parents in alternative child-care.

Thank you Tereza for welcoming us into your home and family this weekend to share with us your past struggles, and inspire us with your strength and drive to provide your son (and pets - all 9 of them, if I counted correctly) with a loving home.

Everybody loves an excursion - Enter the magical world of Czech director, screenwriter and fine artist Karel Zeman... thanks to the Karel Zeman Museum and their fantastical and interactive exhibitions!

Zeman was a true successor to Georges Méliès and known as the Wizard of the big screen because of his breakthrough use of live action, animation and puppetry in the 1950's and continued development of special effects. Zeman's work went on to inspire the likes of filmmakers such as Spielberg, and during his time was admired by personalities such as Pablo Picasso, Charlie Chaplin and Salvádor Dalí.

We were lucky enough to be accompanied on todays excursion by FAMO's establishing director Miloň Terč who worked down the hallway from Zeman at the Zlin film studios for over 30 years, and knew him personally.

FAMO Cinematography major, Martin Kriz, on his studies mobility to London South Bank University as part of the Erasmus+ program. All FAMO and SVOSF students have the opportunity to study and work abroad (and received funding at the same time!) as part of this program.

"It has been enriching to see how different it is studying at a different university, which has over 15 000 students in comparison with our Film academy.
The whole Erasmus experience gave me an insight into many different nationalities, (what is for me as a filmmaker extremely convenient). I improved my English, I learned some new filmmaking skills and on top of it, I made a lot of friendships with people from many different places and nationalities.
At the end, I am honestly grateful for this experience with my Erasmus program and I am going to use my new knowledge in my future work back here at FAMO."
